Other modules / Using Zentyal generated VPN with VPN router
« on: February 10, 2021, 02:57:57 pm »
Hello,

I'm trying to link two locations via VPN. Up to now, I'm using Zentyal-to-Zentyal tunnels for that, but in this new location I only have two machines, a computer and a scanner, and didn't want to keep another computer always on to act as the Zentyal-to-Zentyal client.

I was wondering if it is possible to export the VPN configuration to a VPN router to make this proccess more manageable. Reading the Z-2-Z exported configuration file makes me think that it would only be understanded by another Zentyal machine (as expected from the "Zentyal-to-Zentyal tunnel" name).

I managed to make a router connect via VPN to the Zentyal server, but in this case I used a remote client (road warrior) configuration file. So the router itself connects to the VPN, but none of the computers conected to its LAN can access this VPN.

Is it possible to make a router work with Zentyal VPN so the machines behind this router can connect via the VPN? Would it be as easy as just exporting the configuration from Zentyal to the router? If not, do you know any tutorial to do this?

My knowledge about networking is quite limited, so if my message lacks any important piece of information or I'm using the wrong terminology please let me know so that I can clarify my question.

Thank you in advance,

Other modules / Directing webserver domain to internal server
« on: June 18, 2019, 02:53:48 pm »
Hello:

I'm using Zentyal Community as a Gateway, web server, firewall and DNS server (among others). I have a few pages hosted in that machine, but there are also some web applications that are hosted in some internal servers other than that Zentyal main machine, either because the configuration required by this applications is not compatible with Zentyal or because I don't want to mess with Zentyal default configuration to be able to accomodate those requirements.

From inside my network, everything is working fine. But now I need to be able to access one of these web apps from outside my network. Is it possible to configure Zentyal so that it directs a domain to the server where the web app is hosted? (I insist my question only relates on how to be able to access it from outside our network, since I can use it correctly from inside)

Thank you,

Installation and Upgrades / Scan for viruses
« on: June 26, 2014, 10:43:38 am »
Hello,

I'm using a Zentyal server, among other things, as a web server. I have the antivirus enabled, and web page files are shared via samba.

I found out recently that my server has been repeatedly attacked via wso shell trojans. They are all hosted at the web page directories.

My desktop antivirus detects the trojan and refuses to open the file, so I guess it shouldn't be that difficult for the Zentyal antivirus to spot and block, quarantine or delete them, but it obviously hasn't.

Do I have to manually launch the scan for viruses, or should it be something Zentyal does on its own? If so, why hasn't it helped my server from being attacked? Am I doing anything wrong?

Thank you!

Installation and Upgrades / Mail module and php mail function
« on: September 06, 2013, 09:57:44 am »
Can anybody give me some advice on how to configure the "Mail" module in zentyal and php.ini so that I can use php mail() function to send emails?

I have been reading about it, but most of what I find implies third party mail servers.

Thanks in advance.

Installation and Upgrades / Crontab as user
« on: June 27, 2013, 03:01:08 pm »
Hello,

I'm trying to backup some files periodically from my zentyal server to another computer (Win2003 server), but I wouldn't like to use the admin user, so I created a user ("backup_user") specifically in that Win2003 server for that task. That user is also exists in my zentyal server.

that user already mounted a directory shared from the w2003s. I'd like to create a cron job for that user that executes every day. How can I run that cron job as the user "backup_user"?

Thank you!

Installation and Upgrades / FTP: LDAP and virtual servers
« on: January 21, 2013, 04:55:09 pm »
Hello!

I have a Zentyal machine in which user files and web pages are stored and server. All the users validate to a W2003Server via LDAP and are locked in their home directories. I managed to create a VSFTPD custom setup for each of the two users who must have access to the web server files, so that they are locked in the www directory, instead of their home.

The problem with that, is that those users belong to some groups inherited from the W2003Server, making it impossible to add them to the www-data group. Therefore, they don't have the right permissions necessary in some web applications.

I would like to be able to connect as a user that belongs to the www-data group (or even the www-data user, if possible). It would be even better if I could allow some of my existing users from the W2003Server, with their username and password from that machine, to FTP files as if they were www-data:www-data (as I think it happens in any commercial web server).

I have been finding out about virtual users, but didn't understand much of it. Are they compatible with LDAP users (meaning, can I have all my users validating against LDAP but a few ones, that will manage web files)?

Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS
Zentyal 2.2.7

Thanks in advance!

Installation and Upgrades / FTP + LDAP + web server
« on: December 12, 2012, 05:19:56 pm »
Hello,

I have a Zentyal Server set up as a slave to a Win2003 LDAP master. The Zentyal Server works as a FTP and web server too.

I have granted some users permissions to access to /srv/www via FTP. With the permissions properly configured, those users are able to see the files in the web directory. BUT...

But I don't know how to configure my web directory permissions so that my users can also upload content (or at least not in a secure way). As far as I know, the safest way to do so, would be to add those users to the www-root group. But since the FTP user validates against Win2003 LDAP it seems that I can not asign them to the www-root group.

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Installation and Upgrades / FTP Fail login [solved]
« on: December 11, 2012, 10:28:51 am »
Hello,

I have just enabled the FTP module. This are my settings:

Anonymous access: disabled
Personal directories: enabled
Restrict to personal directories: enabled
SSL support: disabled

My Zentyal Server is configured as a slave to a LDAP Windows 2003 machine.

Most of the users can log in to my FTP with no problems, but for some of them, the server always replies "Fail login". I have tried everything I could think of, restarted the FTP service, made all kinds of changes in my Win2003 server, and nothing worked.

If there is a pattern, it seems that the newer users added to the Win2003 machine are the ones that can't log in.

Any advice, please?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I want to grant user A no access to FTP, user B should be able to access her home directory, and user C should  be able to access his home and the www directory.

As far as I know, vsftp, the ftp server used by zentyal, allows that configuration by indicating in its config file a directory where the user custom configurations are stored. But any change I make to vsftp config file is overwritten by zentyal, much like happens to th changes made to its web server configuration file.

I know that, in the web server, changes can be made that will not be overwritten: a file can be created at  /etc/apache2/sites-available/user-ebox-[domain] . Is there anything like that for vsftp? Or any other way to be able to configure FTP access for each user?

Thank you!

Installation and Upgrades / LDAP sync, users and shared folders
« on: September 05, 2012, 12:49:57 pm »
Hello,

I'm having troubles trying to access shared folders. I have Zentyal Community Edition 2.2.7 installed as a Windows 2003 AD slave, so all the users in my Zentyal are replicated from it. All but one, since the Zentyal main admin user, the one created during installation, doesn't belong to that AD nor is listed anywhere (though that user can log in with no problems).

To explain it, let's suppose I have two users: the one created during installation (from now on, "zentyal_admin") and the one syncronized from LDAP ("akhasis", belonging to the "administrators" LDAP group). I'm trying to share the /srv/www folder so that I can upload my webpages just drag&dropping them to a directory on my desktop (workaround till I can get FTP to work).

So I set /srv/www as shared with the group "administrators". When I try to access it from another computer, it doesn't let me (it keeps asking my username and password). This makes me think that, despite listed in Users section and having their own folder, the users aren't recognized by Zentyal. Moreover, the Dashboard shows only 1 user.

The only way I can access those shared folders is allowing guests and then connecting from another computer with my "zentyal_admin" user.

I have been trying to solve this for days, but can't think of anything else to try.

Also, there is no way to allow "akhasis" to admin my Zentyal installation. May that be another symptom that LDAP users aren't recognized beyond getting their own /home/username directories?

I'd be really thankful if you could give me any hint on how to solve this.

Installation and Upgrades / [Solved] Canonical URLs
« on: July 17, 2012, 11:03:15 am »
Hello,

I'm just starting to work with Zentyal server for the first time, so maybe my question is quite trivial, but I could find no info about it.

I'm trying to get a webpage hosted in my Zentyal http server to work both through mypage.mydomain.com and www.mypage.mydomain.com.

I have been messing with the DNS configuration for my page and its aliases and managed to get both URL's to work, though for some reason the www url points to a different folder than the one without www (actually, I cant find out where the www url is pointing to).

Could somebody help me with this configuration?

Thanks in advance
