cool. thank you. I will look into that.

quick question. Is it installed by default?

If not, and forgive the simple question, do I do an apt get in order to download it?

Thanks

Installation and Upgrades / another editor than Vi

Hi

I have a quick question.

From the console on the box hosting ebox. Is there another editor available other than vi? Not being familar with vi and having to edit the fstab file was a bit of a challenge. So I am hoping there is another alternative.

Thanks in advance...

Installation and Upgrades / Re: adding disk question

thanks. I'll check it out.

By way of reference. I created a group and a share, and then edited the fstab file to mount to the same folder/directory that held the share.

This was the only way I could figure out on getting the extra disk to show up within Samba. I did have to muck around with changing permissions on the folder, but I suspect my procedure was off.

I appreciate the assist in any event.

Now my next step is to figure out how to upgrade to a RAID5 array with a hostspare...

Installation and Upgrades / Re: file sharing question

Yes. I ended up putting the server into a member server mode and the problem occurrance dropped.

The workaround fix is that I have to break my connection from my XP machine and re-authenticate. Once done I can rename folders and files.

Thanks for the assist.

Installation and Upgrades / adding disk question
« on: March 30, 2008, 12:05:57 am »
Hi everyone,

I have a disk related question. I have read some of the posts on this forum and have been able to add a second disk to my system via editing the fstab file.

I used the following.. /dev/hdb1 /usr/local etc... which upon reboot presents the second disk on my system via the web intereface.

My question is how do I go about sharing this disk from Samba. I have tried to use the fstab file to map the disk to the /home/samba mount point with little luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again...

Andrew

Installation and Upgrades / file sharing question
« on: March 29, 2008, 11:54:32 pm »
Hi,
I recently installed the ebox OS on what I hope to be my new home server.

The installation went well, but I have a questions regarding file sharing aka samba. I have created the ebox server to act as a PDC and have create shares with no problem.

I can access those shares from my Win XP PC. However when creating files and folders on the server using my XP machine, I notice that I have to manually refresh the dialog box in order to see my changes to the folder/share on the server.

Does anyone know how I can address this?

Thanks in advance..

Andrew ???
