Title: What is the correct way to remove a Zentyal additional domain controller?
Post by: basselope on March 28, 2019, 12:04:16 pm
Hello,

I have a main domain controller dc1 on a physical host and 2 additional domain controllers on virtual machines, dc2 and dc3.

dc2 has been shut down some time ago, and the machine hosting it is going to be retired soon. It can be restarted if necessary.

No SYSVOL rsync has been setup, and the new vm on dc3 works correctly.

How should I go about removing the controller from my domain? They are all Zentyal, 5.1 for dc1 and dc2, 6.0 for dc3.

Any help on this?

To be honest, I believe the correct procedure to do this should be in the documentation.

I can remove the machine from Active Directory Users and Computers on a Windows domain client, remove the dns entry for the deleted dc and check/correct if some domain computer has direct pointers to it.

Is this enough?

You can try this:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Demoting_a_Samba_AD_DC

This solution(Demoting an Offline Domain Controller) is worked for me.

Thanks: good link.

However, my case was straightforward and I just had to use RSAT Active Directory Users and Computers and remove the additional controller.
