Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal Gateway Upload speed slow
« on: October 14, 2014, 05:36:02 pm »
Hi all,
At my company, we've just upgraded to FTTC (76/19Mbps). We are currently running Zentyal 3.0 as a virtual instance on a Xenserver.

the download speeds are fine, but the upload speeds are 0.8Mbps. At first I thought it was a problem with the ISP, but I then tried a speed test with a laptop plugged directly into the router, and got the speeds I expected (18Mbps upload). So I am thinking its an issue with the throughput of the gateway.
My problems is, I don't know why it would only be an issue just for upload speed, and not for download. I've turned off the traffic shaping module, and there are no throttling rules. I'm at a bit of a loss.

Can anybody suggest anything?
Steve

Sorry for the late reply.

Its exactly as you said illunis, I took a snapshot, it didn't work and I had to roll back.

Also your link on the bugtracker has gone, has it been merged with something else?

I went ahead and changed the domain controller type from additional to primary and it seems to have worked, didn't have to rejoin them all. There was an error "all changes may not have been applied" (or similar). I will see how it goes.

Hi,
We've been running Zentyal 3.0 for about a year now and I'm in the process of updating to 3.3. For various reasons I'd prefer not to click the upgrade button, but to install 3.3 from scratch.

I've installed 3.3 as an additional domain controller, and got it to sync users and computers with the primary Zentyal 3.0. What I'd like to know is, if I now shutdown the 3.0 server and make the 3.3 server primary, will everything work fine, or will I have to rejoin all my computers to the domain?

Thanks in advance

Installation and Upgrades / Re: openvpn with multiple clients

Ok, I went with the solution of having one certificate per user/device and that has worked.
Cheers all

Ok, its possibly due to a misconfiguration. I didn't create a separate certificate for each user. Hopefully that will fix.

Installation and Upgrades / [SOLVED] openvpn with multiple clients
« on: August 12, 2013, 09:04:47 pm »
Hiya,
I have successfully configured an openvpn client to connect to my Zentyal server and it all works fine. However, I want to set up multiple clients, and currently if one of the other clients logs in, the previous client is logged out. then each tries to auto reconnect and you get a loop. lol.

I've checked the logs and it says that to allow multiple clients using the same username i have to specify it as an option, but I've no idea where to put that. Does anybody know? Is multiple clients with the same username the best way to go, or is there a way of having a separate name for each openvpn client?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
I'd like to be able to move the samba user roaming profiles directory from the Zentyal server to a separate share (on a windows machine). Is this possible?
If so I imagine I would have to modify the config for each user that already exisits. Is there a way of setting up a template so that any new users I create subsequently would use this windows share?

Installation and Upgrades / samba/dhcp fail issue
« on: June 28, 2013, 11:26:33 pm »
Hi All,
For the last couple of days, my Zentyal 3.0 server stopped providing dhcp ip addresses to clients. I haven't applied any updates for a week previous to it failing. When it happens, it is also not possible to log into the web administration area. The error on the page says "this session has expired due to inactivity".

If I restart the samba4 service (not dhcp service) from console, dhcp addresses work for a while, but will eventually fail again.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Steve

Installation and Upgrades / Re: cant access shares on win xp

I'm a bit of a newb Zentyal-wise, but is it possible to roll back and go to a previous version of a zentyal module to see if it fixes the issue?

I have posted elsewhere, but this is exactly the issue I've been having with samba shares being browsable but not readable by XP. There have been a number of posts about this in the last few days, and none recently that I can see, suggesting that this is could be the result of a samba module update?

Has there been one recently that has maybe broken the filesharing?

Hello,
I've just hit a bit of a brick wall and hope someone can help.

Samba sharing was working fine on zentyal yesterday, but today I only allowed to see the files in shared directories I have created - I cannot read or copy. The directories each have slightly different access rights, and if you right click>security they retain these rights.

I just cannot read or copy out of the folders.

Weirdly I can copy INTO the folder. and any files I copy in can be deleted.

However, copying anything into the directory, even a single link, takes about 45 seconds, due to high smbd cpu usage.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Hiya, thanks for so prompt a reply. :)

Am I right in thinking it keeps the changes in a temporary file that is overwritten when the server is rebooted? If so can I add the settings from it to the startup config?

Hiya all,
I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue. :)
I'm running Zentyal 3 64bit and its mostly fine.
However I seem to be having some samba folder sharing permission issues.

The permissions for users and groups are in the Zentyal web interface and these work fine. however, some of the folders we wanted to fine tune (e.g. give modify access without full access) and the web interface does not allow this, but it can done from an XP client with admin privileges. The new access level is accepted and all is well.

Until you reboot the server.

When you reboot the server it forgets all these little changes and seems to load from the "master" ACL as seen in the web interface.

Is this deliberate? And is there any way of retaining the changes made by XP after a reboot?
Kind Regards
Steve F
