Can EBOX work in webproxy/content filtering only?
« on: December 20, 2007, 06:25:02 pm »
I already have a firewall-router-DHCP-DNS device.  All I need is a web proxy/content filtering device.  Can EBOX run in this mode only?  If yes, what are the configuration steps.

Now there's no way to make eBox work on bridge mode, so if you want to keep your router working as firewall-dhcp-dns you could use eBox as a proxy/content filter but not in transparent mode.

Besides what Javi said above.

The configuration settings are under ' HTTP Proxy'  menu entry:

The subentries are:
 * General: Configure the listening port, the global default filter policy and if the proxy works transparently
 * Objects' Policy: Set the filtering policy for the a group of hosts/nets
 * Filtering settings: Set those domains, extensions and MIME types you may allow or deny explicitily.

Best regards,

So what you saying is that to use it as a proxy i wll have to place a firewall behind a firewall, and the INSIDE an OUTSIDE interface will have to be on a differnt subnets?

rsarda1,

I think it depends on whether you want to do transparent webproxy-ing/filtering or not.

If you want it transparent, so that client browsers don't need to specify a proxy I think something along the lines of the attached diagram will suit.

Let me know if that helps.

Tatster.

How do I add objects in objects policy?
