Bandwidth throttling question
« on: December 01, 2011, 09:39:11 am »
I understand the concept of ingress and egress shaping through the internal and external interface but can someone explain something to me?

Is the service field related to source/destination/both for that interface?

For example, if I guaranteed upload bandwidth (external interface) for RDP am I reserving that for an external host connecting to an internal PC or vice versa?

Eth0 and eth1 rules would both be relevant for the same service in my mind but I can’t understand how the Zentyal could do it unless a rule applies to traffic both ways.

Thanks

If this is in the wrong section, could I get a mod to move?

Thanks

On the external interface you apply rules for upload, an internal PC connecting to a machine on the internet. You can limit and also guarantee rates in this case.

On the internal interface you apply rules for download, when the traffic is coming back. There you can only limit the rate.
