Zentyal As Gateway with adsl modem MPoA /1483
« on: April 02, 2011, 09:40:16 am »
HI,
Im looking at using Zentyal as a gateway with a draytek ethernet modem.

I can see Zentyal supports PPPoE/A but does it support MPoA as used by bethere ISP in the UK?

I have 4 x fixed ip addresses with bethere

My setting would be as follows:

Channel:2, VPI:0, VCI:101
Protocol:MPoA/1483 Bridged IP LLC
Modulation:Multimode,
IP Address:xx.xx.xxx.xx
IP Address:xx.xx.xxx.xx
IP Address:xx.xx.xxx.xx
IP Address:xx.xx.xxx.xx
Subnet Mask:255.255.248.0
Gateway IP:xx.xx.xxx.x

Is this supported in Zentyal?
http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/vigor120.html

The modems specs are:
# Protocol Support:

    * ANSI T1.413 Issue 2
    * ITU-T G.992.1 G.dmt (ADSL)
    * ITU-T G.992.2 G.lite
    * ITU-T G.992.3 ADSL2
    * ITU-T G.992.5 ADSL2+
    * Annex L (READSL)
    * Annex M
    * PPPoA / PPPoE Bridging (WAN to LAN)
          o Bridging compatible with ISPs running IPv6*
    * RFC-2684 / RFC-1483

# Built-in Diagnostics (WUI / CLI)
# Physical Interfaces:

    * RJ11 - ADSL Line
    * RJ45 - 10/100BaseT Ethernet (auto-sensing/MDI-X)
    * Power Socket (9VDC)

Actually I might have just answered my own question. I have to put the settings into the modem which will convert the mpoa to ppoa. i think ....

I found this here:http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/kb_vigor100_setup.html

The Vigor 120 modem comes pre-configured for all ISPs apart from BeThere/O2 which uses unusual line settings (MPoA instead of PPPoA and different VPI/VCI settings). To configure the Vigor120 for BeThere, follow these instructions:

   1. Connect the power adaptor to the Vigor 120 and turn it on.
   2. Connect an Ethernet cable directly from a PC to the Vigor 120.
   3. After a few moments, the PC should get an IP address (Most likely 192.168.2.10)
   4. In your web browser, access the Vigor 120's web interface at http://192.168.2.1 (192.168.1.1 if you are using a Vigor100/220)
   5. Go to the Internet Access menu and then click on the MPoA tab.
   6. Check that the settings are correct (VPI 0 /VCI 101/1483 Bridged LLC)
   7. You must now click the 'Enable' button on the MPoA tab.
   8. If you wish, you can also set the modulation mode (e.g. ADSL2+) but this is not necessary, it just makes it re-connect quicker.
   9. Do not select Annex M unless you definitely have that from your ISP.
  10. If you are unsure, leave the modulation at AUTO.
  11. Click OK and the Vigor 120 will save the settings and reboot.
  12. Connect the ADSL line cable to the Vigor 120.
  13. After a short while* your PC should then get a new IP address which will be the public IP address allocated by your ISP. If your ISP has allocated you with a fixed IP Address or a range of IP Addresses you should manually set this on the PC using the details they have provided for IP, Subnet Mask, G/W and DNS as the ISP will only allocate IP Addresses automatically to dynamic IP connections.
  14. You can now access the Internet normally

*This short while can vary considerably when swapping devices on your line as BeThere take a while to 'forget' about your current equipment and access a new MAC address. This has been observed as up to an hour, but can also be minutes.

Am i barking up the right tree?

Zentyal doesn't support PPPoA but PPPoE.

Why not? Any plans to get it supported?

Most of the UK is on PPoA

Many thanks
