[SOLVED] basic settings, GATEWAY and ROUTE
« on: February 16, 2011, 01:57:06 am »
Hallo, I have a Installation of Zentyal 2.0.3 i386 as Guest in VirtualBox. Assigned 2 NIC's. In the initial configuration I installed the "Gateway" package.

eth0 is set External and DHCP. The upper network is now my LAN (192.168.16.0/24). Later at the genuine hardware this is the internet. Okay, this connection is up and running.

eth1 is set STATIC and INTERNAL with IP 192.168.23.1 and mask 255.255.255.0

My aim is to have a subnet 192.168.23.0/24 with Gateway, DHCP and DNS available under 192.168.23.1

I'm not familized with routing, but as the documentation say I need a gateway and static route. Right?

So first I configure the Gateway. I found gateway one autoconfigured,  I unchecked "Standard" and add a second gateway:
NameIP-AdrInterfaceStandard
dhcp-gw-eth0--eth0unchecked
gw-subnet192.168.23.1eth1checked

Next is Static Route, but I have no idea what to insert in "Network" and "Gateway". I try "Network: 192.168.23.1/32" and "Gateway: dhcp-gw-eth0". But this brings me a error "invalid gateway". Normally I can't know what IP the other DHCP-Server will give me.

What do I have to set?

Network--->interfaces

On your internet side (eth0) if you are being fed via dhcp you don't need any gateway information.  This is provided by your ISP.  On your internal side (eth1) You would turn on dhcp service for your network
so all you need here is your fixed ip address for your server 192.168.23.1

DHCP (in the infrastructure group)

eth1
Gateway Zentyal
Probably every setting on this page that has a Zentyal choice ..... that is the one you want.  This is enough to get the system up and running serving IP's to machines..... Have fun

Denny is right, that's the way it should work.
No static route needed.

Cheers.
