Problem:
If I go to Mail ->General and I change the "Smarthost to send mail:" option, to a different SMTP server, the option is not applied.

The /etc/postfix/main.cf keeps the old setting after a save.

If I then revisit the Mail -> General menu in eBox, the old setting is still in the field.

Could this be something with my setup?

I'm having similar problems with the latest version of ebox-mail.  I can't get mail server or virtual domain settings to stick.  You're not alone, let's hope they fix it soon.

I does irritate me somewhat that responses on how to workaround such problems aren't forthcoming.

I built a new server based on 10.04 a month or so back and settled on EBox.
I didn't do my homework found out too late that it was beta and have spent (wasted) hours trying to work around bugs.

I'm still not sure where EBox keeps it's master settings, whether in file or database form.  The /var/lib/ebox tree doesn't seem to be that place - i.e I manually change settings the GUI fails on but it doesn't pickup the manual change, but instead writes over the top of it.

I know it's a beta & I know its my fault for using it too soon.  :-[

The setting are stored in the redis db server.

I have written a script to update values in the redis db, if the frontend updates fail.

The script would be great, could you email it to me? g.woollett@irl.cri.nz.

If the settings are indeed in a database it's a shame that EBox have decided to adopt a "Windows " aka "registry" type system for storing settings, it's one of my pet hates about windows.

One of UNIX's greatest strengths has been that when things go wrong you can open up a text editor go through the configuration file, fix it and not have it overwritten.  IMHO EBox would do better to keep to this model rather then the registry route.

Don't get me wrong, the concept behind EBox is great, but what I don't like is trying to fix a problem with both hands tied behind my back.

Hi there,

Could you test them with the latest packages? We have fixed a problem related to mail virtual domains in ebox 1.5.13.

Best regards and thanks very much for your feedback!
