Many thanks for this post !
But I need some help..

I want to create a user on my Ebox-server who can only use FTP (to backup data to a specific folder on the server).

How must I do that ?
So, I could make a new user and a new group, but how must I adapt the config-file so this new user can use ftp to access his own ftp-folder ?

Any help would be great !

 :)

Hello i'm new here.

I'm going to set up an ebox-server with domain for my school.
Now I want to let the students access the files they placed in there home directory from there home.
So there are less problems with memory sticks and so.

The problem that I have is the folowing:

The fisrt problem is:
I have installed proftpd with ldap like discribed.
But Everyone that can login, can access al the group directory's and I want that only the group you are asigned to, that you can only access that group.

The second problem is that in the directory /home/samba/users
that with proftpd, I can't see anything in that directory while there are the home directory's from the domain users. With the command line, I can see the directory's, and with proftpd not.

I hope to hear an awnser from someone soon.

ps: I have the newest version of ebox

By newest version meaning 1.4 or 1.5? This section is for 1.4. For 1.5 there is a module for FTP. I haven't personally tried the module for 1.5, but for 1.4 you need to follow the instruction and read all the post to make it work the way you want. Also make sure you have acl on in the fstab.

Good luck
Eric

I have found the problem. I used as ftp client, FileZilla, and this was the problem.

When I used WinSCP, was the problem away. So like I thougt, It is something with valid shell.

greatings boeykes and thanx for the help.
