Is on-the-fly encryption possible for Samba shares?
« on: April 07, 2020, 11:30:43 am »
We have a Zentyal 6.1 server setup as a basic File and Active Directory server for 3 Windows 10 clients.  The W10 clients can R/W to Samba file shares on the Zentyal without any problems.  Everything works great!

Going forward there's going to be a requirement to have the data on the Zentyal Samba files shares to be encrypted on the hard drive. I was thinking I could use Windows EFS, however, there's no option for that when right clicking on a file share folder.   I have a couple of questions concerning this:

0. Is there any way to use Windows EFS with a Samba File share?
1. Veracrypt seems to be a likely candidate for encrypting , but, has anyone had any experience with using this?
2. If Veracrypt works for encrypting files on the Zentyal Samba file shares, will Windows clients still be able to access the files?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
