Graphical interface not loading
« on: March 26, 2010, 04:45:19 am »
Hi there,

I am really new to linux and ebox and tried to install the latest version (1.4) on an older pc to test it out -  and got only a login and no "you get graphical interface with a browser" like the docs tell me ...
I see that the machine starts gnome display manger but then stops it and thats it ...
I try to run this on a MSI PM8M Board with a Pentium 4 Mobile installed.
No graphiccard only the onboard solution.

I tried my downloaded Image to install in a new VirtualMachine on my PC and this works perfectly.

So the image is fine - what can I do or where should I search for an answer to have this graphic interface on the same machine...
I can login from "outside" with another machine to my ebox but normally I need a graphical interface on the machine, to see what am I do ....  :o

ok so far thanks for your time.

Stev

Hi, Stev

What do the logs say ? Do you have any error messages inside ?
Does the GDM remain on the loading state or does it change to gray desktop ?
Please provide further info. And how nuch shared memory have you assigned to the onboard video.

Best regards
Bogdan

HI!

did I say that i am new to this :-)

I do see short the x on the graphic screen and then retunr to "black and white" text screen. :-)

If I try to start "startx" it says fatal server error no screens found

;-)

same in the log file at /var/log/Xorg.0.log

the max memory  I can give to the onboard solution is 64mb and this is what it got.

thank you!

HI!

sorry was too busy last days ;-)
I've changed the whole system to another hardware and what should I say up and running ...
the old one died these days :-)

So we will never know why .. but now it works ,,, so doesn't matter ... for now ;-)
