100% free ebox
« on: May 26, 2008, 05:19:21 am »
I would like to know if the latest ebox (which I understand is based on ubuntu) will be rebuilt to be based on gnewsense so the software in it is 100% free software. ubuntu has some propietary software which is not good for the free software movement.

Thanks for your help.

No, we will stick to Ubuntu. The only non-free software we use in eBox is some propietary bits that are in the Ubuntu's linux-server  kernel but clean up this is not a priority for us.

We will probably have a Debian based version which will be totally free as in free speech :) The only thing is we will release updates for ubuntu more often.

What is the difference? gNewSense 2.0 has exactly the same packages as Ubuntu 8.04 except for the kernel proprietary modules and some artwork. It's a question of changing repositories. That's it. The process is exactly the same. With the advantage of having a 100% distro which could go in

Would a fork be better?
