Hi Bert,

Yeah Zentyal 5.0.9 has big issues and I would encourage anyone to not upgrade to it and to avoid it for now.

basically you wont get Mail Filter or Antivirus working, and if you try then Sama will crash as well.

I have now done 4 seperate installs from scratch and can reproduce the issues every time.

Cheers,

David.

It seems to me your dns configuration may have been overwritten or corrupt with the upgrade. If you are still seeing this, check your /etc/resolv.conf and if empty add forwarders in DNS>>DNS Forwarders. I use google's dns in all my setup and this is the first place I'd check for dns resolution issues. Once set, I'd retry the update and it usually works

Hi Lalpi,
Appreciate your response but it was not recoverable and per the other posts that followed that, a new build was done.

The problem is that the new build even failed heavily, I cannot turn on mail filtering, or antivirus, and other services refuse to work as well.

I still stick by my comment that 5.0.9 has major issues.

Cheers,

David.

Hi... it seems there might be some problem within the configuration... on one server it went on autoupdate absolutely smoothly, on second one I had the same problem as described above.

Nothing helped until I forced cleanup of zentyal-dns package using

Code: [Select]
sudo dpkg --force-all -P zentyal-dns
and then it was OK to reinstall it again so now my server works.

Did another test-run (cli) and got the following:

Code: [Select]
aptitude install zentyal-samba
The following packages will be upgraded:
  libtdb1 libwbclient0 samba samba-common samba-common-bin samba-libs zentyal-samba
7 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 43 not upgraded.
Need to get 6.824 kB of archives. After unpacking 72,7 kB will be freed.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 python-tdb : Hängt ab von: libtdb1 (= 1.3.8-2) but 1.3.13-2build1 is to be installed.
 python-samba : Hängt ab von: libwbclient0 (= 2:4.5.8+dfsg-2) but 2:4.6.7+dfsg-1ubuntu2 is to be installed.

 samba-vfs-modules : Hängt ab von: samba-libs (= 2:4.5.8+dfsg-2) but 2:4.6.7+dfsg-1ubuntu2 is to be installed.
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

      Remove the following packages:
1)      libnss-winbind
2)      libpam-winbind
3)      python-samba
4)      python-tdb
5)      samba
6)      samba-common-bin
7)      samba-dsdb-modules
8)      samba-vfs-modules
9)      winbind
10)     zentyal-groupware
11)     zentyal-mail
12)     zentyal-samba
13)     zentyal-sogo

looks like updateing the package zentyal-samba destroys some dependencies :-(

By now, no solution ...

I have resolved this problem.
I ran sudo apt-get remove zentyal-samba zentyal-dns
I was then able to successfully run sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
Part of the upgrade required a reboot so... I rebooted.
After the server came up, I ran sudo apt-get clean, sudo apt-get autoclean and sudo apt-get autoremove. Probably not necessary but it's quick maintenance.
Test your Internet connection with ping www.google.com and ping 8.8.8.8. If you're having DNS issues, check the DNS settings on your Interface. Since the DNS server has been removed, you can't point the interface at itself for DNS resolution. I removed the DNS entry for the eth0 interface and made an entry for 8.8.8.8. I'm now able to ping www.google.com
I ran sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade again just to make sure everything is working properly.
I logged into the webadmin, went to software management and selected DNS. I let that install, checked that everything was working properly and all my settings were still there.
I then selected Domain Controller and File Sharing. Let that install and verified that my settings were still there and everything is working properly.
Issue resolved

Hi,
at least in scenario this does not help :-(

Mail is still broken since Samba is not running on secure port (and I cannot find the cert generated while initializing it during setup...)
Good that I made snapshots of my Zentyal boxes before trying to update ;-)
