DHCP Reservation not usable
« on: November 18, 2016, 02:23:26 am »
My issue: DHCP must assign the same IP to my devices once gotten, especially over restarts. When one of my devices restarts, the DHCP request often results in a different IP assignment.

I need DHCP to assign the same IP to a device once it's been assigned the 1st time.

This seems impossible with the zentyal interface. I read and tried with FIXED ADDRESSES in the DHCP section of the Dashboard. I managed 1 IP for one of my devices. But I have more than 540 devices, so am I expected to manually create/enter 540 distinct FIXED ADDRESSES for each device? What if a device is replaced (therefore: new MAC). How does that get added automatically in a running system?

So it comes down to "static IP addresses" and "DHCP reservation", terminology that I am not fully familiar with and should not use interchangeably.

But the problem remains: DHCP assigns IP addresses that change for requests from the same devices.
