Short question about the LDAP master/slave feature
« on: February 08, 2010, 02:12:10 pm »
Hi everybody,

I tried to set up two master/slave servers with ebox 1.3.

After a few problems someone told me that it's not possible to run another "usersandgroups-depending" module on the master.
Does this restriction still exists in version 1.4?
Or it is possible to run e.g. samba-shares on the master, too (and e.g. email on the slave...)?

Regards,
Andreas

Yes, I'm afraid that restriction still exists.

Hi, i just wanna add in some question on the restriction of the master/slave features.....

You mentioned that it's not possible to run other "usersandgroups-depending" module on the master, and from the link below, asterisk, mail or samba etc are "usersandgroups-depending" modules. Can I say that if i totally remove these "usersandgroups-depending" module and reconfigure them on the slave, it is possible to setup the replication?

http://trac.ebox-platform.com/wiki/Document/HowTo/EBoxMasterSlaveSetup#Master

Can i have a list of the "usersandgroups-depending" modules?

I have Samba running on the Master and I am able to access the shares. I don't know what that's talking about. Only apparmor doesn't work.

do you only have samba running on the master? how about  asterisk, mail modules? are they running on the master as well? thanks

Mail I haven't tried because I don't need it. I have BackupPC installed, and I've verified I'm able to send mail using that at least. Asterisk I also do not need since I have no IP phones. Just Samba.

so can i say that you have setup master/slave environment and that your file sharing is enabled and share folders are all created in master server?

any share folder created in slave server and other additional modules installed in slave server? thanks

Each file share is unique. You setup that service separately on each machine.

meaning you have both "file sharing" enabling on both master/slave and you are able to access them both by using the unc method, for eg, \\eboxmaster, \\eboxslave?

I do not have groups setup because I only have 4 users at the moment so I cannot verify if this is a distribution-wide bug or not.
