Would this work for my needs
« on: February 26, 2015, 11:32:52 am »
Let me start by saying I know nothing about a server and nothing about setting up a network - I like Linux but lack the knowledge to know how to do anything with networking.

My "needs" (ok, wants ;) ):

- central place to backup my computer, tablet and Raspberry Pi's
- central place to store all of my media files and make them available to my PC, tablet and Raspberry Pi's both at home on my wireless network and remotely via the internet.  If it makes any difference I use XBMC/KODI on my PC, tablet and Raspberry Pi's.

I appreciate any input to this older guy who just doesn't know.

Thanks!

Looks like to me Zentyal is a bit overkill for your situation. Have a look at a NAS or a small server with NAS software (freenas, nas4free, openmediavault or Xpenology (Synology software on 'normal' hardware)
