Problems with Outlook Connections
« on: December 29, 2014, 07:28:49 pm »
Hello,

I recently stumbled on Zentyal and thought i would give it try to replace our MS SBS servers. So far i'm liking what i've seen, though i have only played with it for about a day at the moment.

There are 2 things I'm currently "playing with", but having problems figuring out. 1 of them is connecting Outlook to Zentyal.

Now I have read through https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/En/4.0/OpenChange_(Microsoft(R)_Exchange_Server_protocol_implementation) and outlook will connect, but I can not see any mail in the mailbox (there are currently 6 items). I know it's connected as outlook does show "Online with Microsoft Exchange" in the button right hand corner. I can even create events in the outlook calendar and they show up in the webmail, but vanish from outlook.

So it's a little weird to me. Any help on where to look to find the cause would be great.

I  guess you know the issue that OpenChange does not yet update the folders automatically so you have to use SHIFT+F9 to Update All Folders - we are desperately waiting for this embarrassment to be resolved (our clients cannot believe it ...) - if you have done this and it is not resolved, try removing the OST file and sync again - if there was a pre-existing OST file Outlook may fail to access the file and therefore cannot populate it.

Yes I happen to to stumble on this. I guess my expectations of this system were far to high given the "Drop in replacement" claim. Since you have to have cache mode enabled. Which was also a problem because it did not say that had to be enabled. The whole pushing to outlook has been a problem in my tests. I also find it funny that i can not run Z-push or Sogo Activesync with SSL. I also could not get Z-Push to function at all.

As I said, maybe my expectations for this as a true drop in replacement for our old SBS servers were way to tight considering the problems i've seen and the coaching that needs to take place to get things to work.
