Does eBox supply my needs?
« on: December 09, 2009, 05:00:42 pm »
Hi,
I'm looking for these features:
- Connection teaming over 2 wan(in the other words: load balancing, multihomed, multiple gateways rotation. But I'm not looking for failover feature).
- Bandwidth throttling by MAC address. (I want to set bandwidth limit on some users by mac address, not ip address.)
- Dns relay (Using another dns server. I want to use OpenDNS, and my server's dns will redirect the request to OpenDNS)
- Transparent proxy
- Internet access logging(Logging http web site visits. Which user visits which web site and when)

Has eBox these features?

Regards.

I think it has all the features except the bandwith throttling by MAC.

Sorry, I thought it only supported source "objects" or IP addresses, but I see there is also an option four Source MAC!

So, to sum up, it seems that eBox is exactly what you are looking for! ;)

Currently, ONLY if both WAN IP's are static, and PPPoE (if required) is NOT handled by the eBox system.  Either DHCP (with multi-WAN) or PPPoE seem to cause eBox's head to explode, from what I've been able to find / experience...
