How many users Zentyal can support?
« on: October 04, 2014, 11:51:57 pm »
Hello friends,

Please help me out in my small query.

What can be the maximum capacity of users and computers Zentyal can bear before it crashes (if at all).
Can it support large enterprises?
My office strength has suddenly shoot up to approx 3000 (earlier only 500). The company decides to drop the idea of Windows AD. :o

I so far plan to implement the following:
- Samba AD, File server, Printer share
- Mail server
- DNS, DHCP, NTP and Web server.
- Group policies, Software and patch management on windows machines.

If Zentyal is not the right choice in my case, kindly suggest the best solution.

Thank you.

Zentyal is quite scalable. It all depends on the hardware you run it on.
In your case I would absolutely advise to use a supported/commercial version of Zentyal.

Just curious: if you want to drop Windows AD, why choose an AD copy?

We run a zentyal server in our elementary school:

PDC controller
DNS
NTP
File and print server
Intranet web server

There are 50 windows client pc's in the domain.
The teachers use smart boards connected to a windows client pc in the network.
The students work with education applications on the client pc ( graphical applications )
The administration data is also stored on the server.

There are 60 user accounts on the pdc to logon on the server.

Hardware: server Intel dual core processor 2,3 Ghz 4Gb RAM and twoo harddisks.

The Zentyal server( community release ) works already a  few years perfect in our network.

Best regards,
Ian

Thank you so much robb for the reply. If I am able to deploy it successfully, we shall go for its commercial version.,

Yes Windows AD is being dropped. My company is finding Windows license costs unaffordable. As we have group policies implemented at some level, I am finding Samba 4 AD as the closest alternative.

Thank you so much Ian for the reply. We too need to implement something similar, but yes on a much larger level. I shall get back to you in case I get stuck.

Regards.
