Installation on XenServer 6.2
« on: August 27, 2014, 12:37:19 am »
Hi There,

after a terrible story to get Zentyal / Ubuntu 14.04 to know PHP 5.4 instead of PHP 5.5 (because of Zend's Guard Loader is only available for PHP <=5.4) I decided to use XenServer to install two Ubuntus on on machine.

Zentyal hasn't got any big trouble within the installation - based on a real machine. But since I try installing it on XenServer I've got failures after installing packages into ubuntu 14.04 or taking the Zentyal image to the final level.

I don't have these messages here for the moment, but I'm currently trying it again.

My question is: is there anything to know, installing Zentyal on a virtual machine (in this case XenServer) like the tools or is there any trick? Maybe I do it in a wrong way, but I wanted to have asked. If I do get error messages at all, I will post them here.

Additionally, Zentyal tell me, that I can use the Web-Frontend now. But there's no https connection and http shows me "Welcome to nginx!". Is this normal? I installed Zentyal from a 3.5 / 64-Bit iso.

Thanks for the help and the information, if there is any.

Best,

Martin

Hi,

for my XenServer Setup of Zentyal 3.5 (and other Ubuntu 14.04 Versions) I had to edit a file on the XenServer to recon the bootloader probably...
The pyGrub feature doesn't work if you are using Citrix XenServer (it is already patched in real XEN):

Please look here:
http://virantha.com/2014/05/21/ubuntu-14-04-trusty-on-xenserver-62/

You only have to do "Fix your pygrub on the Xenserver host"

You only get the Admin WebGUI from an other PC if your Network-Card is configured as internal, since the Admin GUI is not accessible over external Interfaces...

Hi Thomas,

thanks for your fast reply. I actually did stuck at the bootloader and found the same solution. Thanks for this tip, too!
Network cards and basic installation does work mostly - but in most cases zentyal doesn't response at "save settings" or at installing the packages from the gui.

Installing them by console/terminal everything is fine - and sometimes zentyal showed me the error(s) and removed the "save settings" button, too. In this moment I'm not sure if everthing went fine.

If I install zentyal on a "real"/"physically" host I don't get this amount of messages.

Does your zentyal work fine in the vm?

Thanks for you help!

Best,

Martin

I installed Zentyal 3.5 on Ubuntu 14.04 and everything is working fine for a months.

For Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on Xenserver 6.2, you can use this guide:
http://virantha.com/2014/05/21/ubuntu-14-04-trusty-on-xenserver-62/

For Zentyal 3.5 , you can use this guide, only change to 3.5:
https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/Installation_Guide

Open /etc/apt/sources.list
and add the source :
deb http://archive.zentyal.org/zentyal 3.5 main extra

There is no Xserver, but it could be better for server

Hi,

sometimes I get the same as maltolomaeus mentioned, but I think it is just a display bug when using Xen VMs.
Everything works fine, evan if the "Save Changes" butten is still there!

I just have got a few problems with MS ActiveSync (on multiple Android devices); hope that will be better in 4.0 ;-)

It is working with z-push, not with sogo-activesync in my Setup.
However I trust on Card/CalDAV to sync my "Family-Contacts" (shared contacts in my Account) or our "Family Calendar".
For us it is a great solution!
