I've searched the web, but found no answer. Plz help. would be soooo nice.
Is there still a PowerPC Port? Ubuntu Karmic is already installed at the machine.

ebox as it's written in perl is architecture independant but some dependencies they are like esoftool for ebox-software and also the backports we have for some modules like ebox-jabber or ebox-asterisk. which modules do you want to install on your ebox ppc ?

hey Jsalamero!

Thank you so very much for your answer, didn't know that ebox is written in perl. even tough i couldn't use the ebox live CD because of its i386 architecture? i never tried that because it thought it will not work. Anyway good to know that it might work with a little tweaking. It is hard for a beginner? Which steps should i take next?

The folowing Modules would be nice:
Network:
UsersandGroups:
NTP:
Printers:
Samba:
OpenVPN:

Are there any precompiled packages?
It would be perfect when i could manage the box over a web GUI http://Routername -or- IP

Thanks in advance...would definately give a donation if it ever will run on my ppc : )

Hi wookie2k,

yes, eBox it's written on perl, you can see the source here (0).

you should be able to install Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server PowerPC (1) just make a plain installation, after that add eBox PPA to your sources.list (2).

then you should be able to install ebox modules, do it one by one so you can see what happening with each one:

apt-get install ebox-network
apt-get install ebox-firewall
apt-get install ebox-usersandgroups
apt-get install ebox-ntp
etc ...

ebox-network will probably fail because of iptables patched with l7filter not being built for ppc, ebox-samba will probably fail because of samba-vscan not being build neither.

try that and come back with the results, we'll try to help :-)

I also have a G4 MacMini.

The implication in these posts is that EBox will not run on Karmic (Ubuntu 9.10), even though I can see the packages in the repository: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all&arch=powerpc&searchon=names&keywords=ebox

What is the problem with running it on Karmic?
