Installing existing FreePBX
« on: February 26, 2014, 03:25:47 am »
Hello everybody,
I am totally new to this. Can You please tell me if it would be possible, to install an existing FreePBX (3.211.63-8) with special software and Asterisk 1.8, on a Zentyal 3.3 system, to be used as a router, without loosing anything ? If yes, how can this be done ? Help is greatly appreciated.
Thank You very much.

Hello U4ME,

My home setup: Zentyal 2.0 + FreePBX 2.11

So yes, it is totally possible but not with the official FreePBX distro. (FreePBX distro is built on top of CentOS and Zentyal is built on top of an Ubuntu server)

Also, my advice would be to compile Asterisk instead of using the PPA version.

Other than that you'll have to change the webserver user (www-data) to asterisk

In order to migrate your existing PBX, simply make a backup on it and then restore it on your Zentyal installation.

**Don't forget to install Spandsp before compiling Asterisk if you ever plan to use the fax function ;)

Good luck!

Marcus

I think the best option is to virtualize the PBX and not medley Zentyal services because FreePBX is often exposed to significant vulnerabilities that can seriously affect the operation of Zentyal.

Preferably with VirtualBox, works perfect. I have two PBX that way and have never had problems with Zentyal.
