VPN: No route pushed to client
« on: October 21, 2013, 04:05:42 pm »
Hi

I have just set up VPN on my gateway. It works quite well: I can connect to the server and get assigned an IP in the default range of 192.168.160.0/24. But I do not have access to the LAN network of the server, which is 192.168.2.0/24, although it is advertised. Then I realised that there was no route on the client to direct traffic to 192.168.160.0/24 over 192.168.2.1. As soon as I added it, I do have access to the LAN.

Of course, I would like for the server to push the route to the client. How can I do that?

Best,
Jan

Is it possible that you are running Windows as the client in this case?  Did you start the OpenVPN GUI with administrator privileges? If not,  it will connect but does not have permissions to adjust the routing table, resulting in what you describe.
