Shared Printer Installation
« on: September 07, 2013, 03:48:56 pm »
Hello,

I've setup a Zentyal server to serve as a domain controller and a print server. I've installed everything, and it is working okay, except for one small issue with the printers.

When I install a printer that is being shared via CUPs and Zentyal, it gets installed for all users on a single computer. Naturally, this is not a feature that Windows supports. Any network printer is supposed to be installed for one user only.

In fact, setting up my own CUPs print server WITHOUT the Zentyal component works as expected, according to Microsoft and Windows printing specs. Any installation of a printer from CUPs ONLY installs for whatever user installed the printer.

What has been done that makes Zentyal behave this way? Comparing my CUPs server to the Zentyal box has shed no light on the issue. If you google "Install network printer for all users" many, many, many people are looking how to do that. It appears Zentyal has figured it out but I have not found any available documentation.

Any ideas?
