Cisco Pix 501 Replacement Using Zentyal
« on: July 10, 2013, 01:12:02 pm »
I just wanted to report that I just replaced a Pix 501 with a lenovo q-190 (which is the same physical size) running Zentyal 3.0.21 64bit:
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/desktops/ideacentre/q-series/q190/index.html

A few things I had to do:

0) Purchase a USB ethernet adaptor for eth1:

1) Create a bootable thumb drive of Zentyal's 64bit iso image using usb-creator-gtk on Ubuntu 13.04 (device doesn't have a dvd/cd player). You could also purchase and USB external DVD writer for cheap if you don't like thumbs:

2) Go into the q190's BIOS and disable secure boot and turn on legacy boot. Set it so it powers on upon receiving power. So if it looses power it comes back on when power returns.

3) During install, I erased all partitions (it comes with Windows 8 installed), and then created 4 partitions:
  100MB boot partition
  4.5GB swap
  25GB  root /
  Remaining GB home /home

It installed easily, and its running great. It looks bigger in the picture, but it is almost exactly the same size as the pix 501. I have them sitting side by side. Now the aging pix is turned off, but ready to function as a back up in case of failure.
