Proxy Filter Disable Navegation
« on: May 09, 2009, 08:54:11 pm »
Software:
Ubuntu
ebox 1.0

I have transparent proxy enabled, everything is working great ;D, the General conf is as follow:

HTTP Proxy
General Settings
Transparent Proxy:    yes
Port: 8080
Default policy: Always Allow

When I change the Default policy from Always Allwo to Filter I get a Failed to Connect message (Firefox Browser at client's) :(

Please advice, ask me if any further info is needed

Hi,
there were recently updates of both dansguardian and ebox-squid packages so we need to know in what exacts version is your software.

Can you post the output of the following command?

apt-cache policy dansguardian ebox-squid

Here is the outoput....

# apt-cache policy dansguardian ebox-squid
dansguardian:
  Installed: 2.9.9.7-2~hardy2
  Candidate: 2.9.9.7-2~hardy2
  Version table:
 *** 2.9.9.7-2~hardy2 0
        500 http://hn.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/universe Packages
        500 http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/universe Packages
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net hardy/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     2.8.0.6-antivirus-6.4.4.1-4build1 0
        500 http://hn.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Packages
ebox-squid:
  Installed: 1.0.1-0ubuntu1~ppa1~hardy1
  Candidate: 1.0.1-0ubuntu1~ppa1~hardy1
  Version table:
 *** 1.0.1-0ubuntu1~ppa1~hardy1 0
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net hardy/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     0.11.99-0ubuntu3 0
        500 http://hn.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Packages

I believe that you are right with the problem... since this appear just before a update I made to the system. How can revert back to the previous version?

Thanks for your reply.

HI clicerioneto,

I think you're using eBox 0.12. You must upgrade ebox packages to 1.0 prior to install ebox-squid 1.0.1 package.

I am wondering about the consequences of putting Squid on port 8080, which, if I'm not mistaken, is DansGuardian's listening port. That would seem to put both DansGuardian and Squid on the same port. My setup (the default) uses port 3128 for Squid (the proxy).

See this DansGuardian "flow of events" for more information.

Sam,
eBox uses another port for dansguardian (3129) so this is not the problem

alphadaemon,
I was unable to reproduce your problem sosurely it will be diiiiffciult to troubleshoot. A thing you can try is to change sssssome parameters only to see what happens and hopefully discard things. For example, your server can filter in no-transparent mode?
