Did exactly this:

- installed ubuntu-server from iso
- added to apt zentyal repositories
- imported keys
- apt-get update, upgrade
- installed both zentyal packages
- via web installed network configuration
- set the static ip, let the hostname and domain on default
- installed dns, ntp
- installed users
- installed file sharing

root@ubuntu:~# cat /etc/network/interfaces
auto lo eth0

iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet static
        address 192.168.1.150
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        broadcast 192.168.1.255

test@ubuntu:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/zentyal samba restart
[sudo] password for test:

Stuart, why do you quote yourself, especially to show one post from this same thread, no more than one post above.
Except if there is something I really don't understand, what does it bring ?  ???

I edited the last bit and noticed the time frame between posts over-lapped.

new installs don't seem to be working chris

[EDIT]

It did work !

Just been doing the 32bit iso install again and there is still a bug if you choose office and infrastructure.

Even with version 3.0.3 the same error.

File Sharing and Domain Services - 3.0.3
Core Version - 3.0.3

Any progress??

Peter.

peter I missed the fault at first as for some reason I like to build up and reboot on incremental steps.

I am sure it will be fixed.

usually I set the network.
update and reboot
bring in dhcp, dns, ntp firewall, users groups and proxy punch holes in external for ssh and a service for https and accept external.
do my paranoid reboot thing
then bring in filesharing (samba) at the end
reboot :)

There should be no real reson to do this apart from some of the fstab options don't take place until a reboot.

humour me though as it works that way.

Hi,

I just bought a new server and installed 64bit version - here without any problem at all.
So the problem seems to be only on 32bit.

Hi FarquahrWindsor,

No luck. I installed it twice. Ones with Zentyal iso and ones with Ubuntu iso. After bringing in each module I rebooted.
The same error both times.

So I just have to wait until it has been fixed.

Thanks anyway.
Peter.

Very strange issue.
Installing both 32bit or 64bit on a physical disk, no problem with samba. But when I install in VBOX both 32bit or 64bit and up with error saying:
FATAL: Couldn't connect to samba LDAP server

I'am going to try VMWARE now.

Has anyone else this same problem.

Peter

Yeah 32bit haven't tried 64bit.

Same confusion as I have installed zentyal so many times but bare metal on 32 works. I think

Its a real pain as I could go and test on one of my sites to utilise infrastructure but VirtBox lets me evaluate in a much easier fashion. Looks like its a trip to the attic and dust off a few old boxes.

Hi FarquahrWindsor,

I just downloaded VMWARE-player and installed Zentyal 32bit. I selected ALL available modules.
And guess what. It just runs like a charme, included samba. No more errors while saving the modules.
I think there's something wrong with virtualbox.

So for me the problem is solved.

Thanks for all the help.

Thanks Peter, looks like I am going to have to swap to vmware.

I am not completely sure as there are several threads going at the moment.

I think its a combination of virtualised, 32 or 64 and hardware and choice of iso.

Somewhere along the line on a combination of people still seem to be having probs. Its a weird one and last weekend I hit it.

Then it went away ! Then again on subsequent installs I have hit it again and now I am totally confused.

Going with your recommendation though as for evaluation running a VM is so much easier. So VMware it is.
