explain to dns réplication to zentyal 3.2
« on: November 09, 2013, 10:58:08 am »
Hi

i have test zentyal 3.2 for this

i mount this:
physiqual machine (windows7) <-nat virtualbox->zentest (zentyal 3.2 passerelle)<192.168.4.1-network internevirtualbox-192.168.4.2>zentest2

zentest and zentest2 are configuring to domain samba 4.The réplication of part "user and computer" is ok
but how to configure réplication of dns part between zentest and zentest2?

regards

There is a similar question in French section.
Although documentation states such feature exists (look at Joining Zentyal server to an existing domain section), I'm afraid, although I've not yet tested it, that is covers only the Samba part of DNS that is then synchronized to standard DNS via dlz plug-in.

The samba part of dns replication is automatic.

Standard DNS basically points to the PDC as the DNS for the domain.

You need to and an entry for setup and initial config.

I did a test setup and that is how I had it setup.

Nicolas,

as described here in French, I confirm there is no such DNS synchro aside the Samba related part  :-[
Thus DNS high availability thanks to this DNS synchro is not feasible (using default Zentyal features).
Same if you want to reach hosts described in DNS for 2 different networks linked via 2 Zentyal servers, you have to maintain your zones aligned manually or configure remote DNS in you DNS list.
This looks simple but as each DNS thinks to be authoritative for the domain... this should even not work... to be tested  ;)

I always thought that if its just an additional AD controller then it should be configured to just use the internal DNS of samba.

I am interested in your thoughts on this as I don't really understand the full implications of having a possible plethora of authoritative dns servers.
