FATAL: Couldn't connect to samba LDAP server
« on: September 26, 2012, 07:58:55 pm »
Hi,

any idea how to fix this problem? I installed fresh ISO and updated to latest. And still cannot make Samba working

This I have installed:

File Sharing and Domain Services - 3.0.2
Users and Groups - 3.0.2
Core Version - 3.0.2

Thanks!

Hi, and welcome!

Just to be clear, is this an upgrade of an earlier installation to 3.0.2? If I'm reading ian's comments right, it's going to be best/necessary to do a fresh install, where the system version will be 3.0.2 upon completion of the installation.

Just downloaded the latest ISO and did a fresh install. Selected only File Sharing modules + their dependencies.
The error occured again, so I don't think that it is properly fixed.

Dunno as my way is to just get the ubuntu iso

Zentyal 3.0 packages

For Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise). You should install the server edition.

Add to your /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/zentyal/3.0/ubuntu precise main
deb http://archive.zentyal.org/zentyal 3.0 main extra

In order to authenticate the packages in the PPA and Zentyal repository you can import its public key with the following command:

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 10E239FF
wget -q http://keys.zentyal.org/zentyal-3.0-archive.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -

apt-get install zentyal-common
apt-get install zentyal-software

ifconfig and get the dynamic ip

make sure apt-get update works before installing to make all repos and keys are in order

::) why not but Zentyal ISO is supposed to work isn't it  ???
Why should installation based on Ubuntu 12.04 + apt-get install work better ?  I'm a bit confused here  :-[

Don't know why he is having a prob to be honest as haven't had a problem.

Last bit really make sure apt-get update works before installing to make all repos and keys are in order

If it doesn't try it another way and report results as said dunno, it works for me.

and try to install infrastructure and office modules

sounds like it might be if a couple of you have the same.

I have a habit of installing bit by bit but the way you described should work.

Might be a clash of all that stuff going on at once maybe.

I have been evaluting 3.0 and have done a raft of installs over the last two weeks.

I usually pick just the networking.

Set those up and set the domain and in general and just have a look at the networking.

Next is usually firewall and proxy.

enabling as I go.

then through on to samba at the end.

Samba4 RC1 has just been released and the devs are working on that at the moment.

So try just an incremental install for now as I haven't had a problem that way.

Or do a ubuntu clean install as I said earlier and see if that does the same.

I have been using VM quite a lot and bare metal and incremental works.

Hi,

so I tried what FarquahrWindsor proposed.

Downloaded ubuntu-12.04.1-server-i386.iso 32bit, installed zentyal via apt.

Clicked on infrastructure and office and this how it ends. With the same problem.

 Saving changes

Saving changes in modules
Current operation: Saving samba module
84%

36 of 43 operations performed

Some modules reported error when saving changes . More information on the logs in /var/log/zentyal/

I really wonder how others made it running.

Hi,

I just wanted someone to check that it wasn't something astray with the iso.

http://forum.zentyal.org/index.php/topic,12244.msg50170/topicseen.html#msg50170

I couple of people have had the same prob and I guess its been all this rush and samba changes have made us over look things.

The Iso and ubuntu way still work.
http://forum.zentyal.org/index.php/topic,12244.msg50170/topicseen.html#msg50170
But unfortunately things are geeting a bit confused if you try and install in one go.

Do it my way and install just software and common

then the network and set your adapters

bring each element in and have a tendency to do samba last.

apols for sending you down the garden path its just that I have been evaluating zentyal and have done over 20 installs in the last couple of months and never installed both infrastructure and office at the same.
I have been evaluating so its allways been networking and the module of cohoice.

Hi again,

so I did the same again .. samba at last ... same issue.

Do somebody know on which port it should be listening or how to start samba LDAP server manually or the way how to zentyal tries to connect to it? If via some DNS or it goes via localhost?

Zentyal due to Samba has moved to 390 as 389 is the norm just check your services to make sure its included.

In samba logs, I can find that it is unable to bind to port 389, but nothing is listening on this port.

Also I found out, that when I restart the module with /etc/init.d/zentyal samba restart, it would not start correctly.

when I do /etc/init.d/bind9 restart and /etc/init.d/samba restart, the samba starts, but users are not copied from zentyal.
