LTSP client with gnome-shell as gnome-session.
« on: May 20, 2012, 09:45:23 pm »
Hello,
I'm looking for a way to get Gnome-Shell to work within a thin client.
Steps i took:

A fresh fully updated zentyal 2.3 server.
With only networking, users and groups, dhcp and thin client installed and configured.

Now, i can login with an administrator and an user account on a thin client.
I would like to have a different look, Gnome-shell.

Now i tried: "sudo apt-get install gnome-shell network-manager-"

Edited the /var/...../lts.conf and added "LDM_SESSION = "gnome-session --session=gnome-clasic" or gnome-fallback..
And made a file in the user account called ".xsession" with "gnome-session --session=gnome-clasic" ^^^^^^
___

Other thing i tried, since gnome didn't work i tried Ubuntu.
So, "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop network-manager-"

And then the "gnome-session --session=ubuntu" or ubuntu-2d.
This neither worked.

I would love to get some help.
Thanks~ Jonne.

first of all sorry for the late response,
as i seam to have forgotten to egnowledge it here in the forum,

in the meanwhile i have created a ticket  #4384 to determine if this is a bugg, a missing feature, or just something that needs to be documented..

once this is determined - that information will be added to this thread so it can be closed.

All tips hints and advices are based on my personal experience.

Dunno, firstly for some reason gnome hangs on first install, I from an ltsp point of veiw I am unsure how to restart.

This happens if I use virtualbox but on that I just restart and all is ok

ltsp-conf is missing a fat-client directive so it always boots thin so you will always get your zentyal desktop.

I am new to LTSP but I am thinking that LTSP directly on the host server is not the way to go.

Maybe should be a virtual machine or other install and use LTSP cluster tools to config.

I posted some stuff on paste bin as I was playing with LTSP http://pastebin.com/mSXnxCTv

To be honest the whole LTSP brings up a lot of questions and I would be interested in your viewpoint.
