Ebox doesn't recognize Broadcom NetXtreme 2 integrated nics

Hi everybody, my server has the following characteristics:
- IBM X3250M3
- Intel PRO/1000 PT Dual Port Server Adapter
- 300GB hard disk
- 4GB RAM
- 2 integrated nics Broadcom NetXtreme 2
I have a problem with the integrated nics, in the installation ebox only recognize the intel nics, so when installation is over, I tray to install the drivers for the broadcom nics but I can’t, I tried with modconf, updating the server with apt-get, updating ebox, but nothing works. I’ve checked /etc/modules and the module bnx2 is there but the nics are not recognized. I also tried reloading the network service with /etc/init.d/networking restart but it didn’t work either.
Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum! To make sure that the people here in the forum have the best possible chance to help you, please provide a bit more information about your system. A good start is always to state what version you are running of eBox
For other information, please check this post:

Regarding hardware support in eBox - eBox supports the hardware that is supported by the version of Ubuntu Server that it runs on. So you might get the answer that you need to check this in the Ubuntu forum. Do you know if the nics are supported by Ubuntu Server?

Thanks oceanwatcher for your replay.
The the ubuntu server page says that this server is certificated as you could see in this web page
http://webapps.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201006-5799/
The nics are a broadcom netxtreme 2, I tested ebox in another server, wich uses the same nics, and in this server the nics are recognized
The version of ebox is 1.4-2, the command @ebox:~$ uname -a gives me this: Linux ebox 2.6.24-27-ebox #1 SMP Mon May 10 13:44:29 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
Thanks for your help

First of all, the certification you are mentioning is for Ubuntu Server 10.04. As eBox 1.42 uses Ubuntu Server 8.04, you need to check there first.
But this is not the main problem. You need to check that the nic's you are using are certified for 8.04 and working before even thinking about eBox. So you have two choices.
1.
http://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=ubuntu+8.04+broadcom+netxtreme+2+compatibility&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
Go through the results. You might find what you are looking for.
2. Install eBox 1.5 as this one is using Ubuntu Server 10.04 as base you might get a different result.

But ebox 1.5 is on beta.
Do you think that is enough stable like to be in a production environment?

You are absolutely correct and I am glad you are careful.
But the problem still stands - you need to check that your card is up and running first. And this is a Ubuntu problem - Ubuntu 8.04.
What do you get if try
Code:
ifconfig

pepeltg, you are correct.
eBox 1.4 does not recognise certain Broadcom NICs. The problem is however not with eBox but with the version of the Broadcom driver in the Linux kernels used for Ubuntu 8.04. If I remember correctly the Broadcom driver version in the Ubuntu 8.04 kernels is version 3.68, while you can download version 3.110 from Broadcom's website.
I ran into this problem with my Intel DG41TX motherboard.
To get the NIC working I downloaded the driver from Broadcom's website, compiled it on my machine and loaded it. Everything worked.
However, since it was not part of the kernel by default I was worried that I would have to do this with every kernel upgrade.
It also bugged me to install eBox 1.4 which is based on Ubuntu 8.04 when 10.04 was included in eBox 1.5.
As such I opted to use eBox 1.5, cause it has a newer version of the Broadcom driver that detects my NICs by default AND it is based on Ubuntu 10.04.
The current URL for the Broadcom drivers is:
