Windows 7 - Joining a Domain
« on: June 15, 2010, 06:41:39 pm »
I tried connecting my Windows 7 machine to the ebox domain and it wouldn't allow me to connect. To over come this I had to do the following:

1. Make note of your current user name and computer name! You will need it to log back in as you will have to enter the user name manually! You must be be logged in as administor to do the next steps!
2. Install reg file. http://trac.ebox-platform.com/raw-attachment/wiki/Document/HowTo/Windows7Support/ebox-win7.reg
3. Restart computer.
4. Right click 'My Computer' and click on 'Properties'.
5. Then under 'Computer name, domain and workgroup settings' click 'Change settings'.
6. A window will appear, click on 'Change'.
7. Then click on 'Domain' and enter the server's domain name.
8. It should then pop up with a log in window. Enter the user account setup for PDC. This account must be on the sever and must have administrator rights!
9. Once you have logged in, it will say 'Welcome to (Domain Name).
10. Restart the computer again.
11. Windows will then restart and will say 'Press Ctrl - Alt - Delete To Login'.
12. Now you have two options:
   - Log in from a user stored on the server; this can be done by entering the username and password.
   - Or to log on to the computer. Type the computer name, follwed by a backward slash (\) and then your username and password to that computer.
   For example: Computername\User

I followed the steps above (logged as Admin, run the reg file then restarted....) then I logged again as Admin and tried to add W7 computer to the ebox domain, the window asking for a username&password appears but then when I press OK the error appears: "the specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted"

I can join winXP computers to the domain but still can't add windows 7 to the domain....

CAN ANYONE HELP-ME PLZ ??????

PS. my ebox doesn't have DHCP configured only file-sharing w/PDC......   :(
