I visit the store from time to time to see how things are developing and saw the subscriptions being offered, which leads me to a question: Understanding that the Professional subscription does not offer Virtual MSP, is it nevertheless appropriate for organizations with multiple eBox installations to  have a single subscribe to the Professional offering? Would that create any problems?

Hi Sam,

The answer is yes. First, the professional offering includes quality assured software updates, avoiding software conflicts and security problems. Also, if you are at the "professional" level you will be able to add services such as technical support and disaster recovery, crucial for any non-experimental production environment. Finally, even if you don't have all the remote configuration options available in the MSP, you still have the alerts and reports of the Virtual CIO, which can point you faster to the source of errors and make the life of your sysadmins much easier Smiley.

So just to make sure I'm following correctly, eBox subscriptions will be by organization rather than by installation or by the number of users. Is that correct? I need to make sure I understand the pricing structure as I am talking to the boss about this in June.

Hi Sam,

eBox subscription are per eBox machine. Anyway, the number of eBox machines is normally related to number of users / workload, thus is not very common to have more than one in an organization with, let's say, less than 50 users. We are open to more flexible negotiations in bigger deployment cases. Don't hesitate to ask any other question you may have.

In my case the number of machines is a direct result of the number of sites/facilities, not users, so it's unlikely that we would qualify for pricing negotiations. We're not especially big, just especially complex for our size. Smiley

Thank you for setting me straight. Smiley

Hi Sam,

We believe that we can negotiate the pricing with you if you have an uncommon deployment case. Could you please describe your case in more detail and contact me with the information via email?

Kind Regards,
Mateo.

I noticed in the store and in this post you mentioned that they receive quality assured updates.  is that to say that you have a separate repository for professional subscription users apart from the regular ppa repository?

Hi centaur,

We effectively have a separate repository, where we test that the generic ubuntu updates don't break any of eBox functionality, once the packages are marked as safe, we make them available. If you have eBox subscribed servers, your systems will keep updating smoothly without any havoc.
