Keep in mind that these "desktop packages" are a first attempt to come to a desktop environment.
Zentyal desktop will be one of the major developments to support the next release of Zentyal Server.

Feel free to discuss the topic in these Zentyal Desktop subforums. Suggestions are very much appreciated.

Just curious, is there a tight link between "Zentyal" as infrastructure component and "Zentyal desktop"?

the idea once was  to create a meta package, for ubuntu that incorporated a couple of functions...
1   pam-ldapauth      to auth users agains zentyal  users&groups
2   pam-mount         to  auto mount required shares.
3   thunderbird         if mail module enabled
4   some scripts        a way to auto configure them to work with the local zentyal server.
5   an agent             a way to check what desktops you have and what thair status is... (basic info).

up to this date lack of  priority (taking ubuntu serriously)  prevented this from being develloped..
All tips hints and advices are based on my personal experience.
As I try my best to be as accurate as possible, following my advice is always at your own risk,

have you tried this ?

http://download1.beyondtrust.com/Technical-Support/Downloads/PowerBroker-Identity-Services-Open-Edition/?Pass=True

it was known as likewise, as zentyal now uses samba 4, when you intall that program, then you can log in into a domain with no problem, I have tested it on a Debian 6.04 connecting to a zentyal 3 (samba 4) domain, and it works perfect
