How to install 2.2 on 8 TB RAID5
« on: June 15, 2012, 08:25:05 »
Hello,
I tried to install ver 2.2 and 2.3 beta on a server with 5 disk RAID5 = 8 TB

I think there is a problem creating boot record concerning partition greater than 2 TB ! ?

I tried it with manual installation and creating partitions described here:
http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2010/09/05/zentyal-installation-guide/
(seems not to be complete tutorial)

Does anyone have a tutorial or tips how to install on system like i said?

Thanks in advance. klaus.

I can't imagine ext4 can't support volumes of 'only' 8TB...
from wikipedia:
Quote
The ext4 filesystem can support volumes with sizes up to 1 exbibyte (EiB) and files with sizes up to 16 tebibytes (TiB).[9]
But I'm sure you already knew that.

I suspect it has something to do with the size and/or location of your boot partition.

Why not follow the official installation manual? http://doc.zentyal.org/en/installation.html
Or do you have to use custom partitions?

btw.. what kind of raid5 do you use? is it a hardware controller or do you use software raid?

thanks for your help. I installed it "normal". No problems during installation. No message or error. But after rebooting only a blinking cursur.

We have a LSI RAID controller = hardware RAID5.

I think it is something with the location of boot partition.

klaus.

I think the issue is that you are trying to boot from the raid partition I have a 4 TB raid 10 config and left a small partition on each drive and set the first drive as the boot partition and it is working well. Tip: by giving up a small amount of space on each drive I have mirrored my boot partition to multiple devices so that if drive 0 fails I can easily get the system back up. here is a link to a bit more info https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SoftwareRAID Hope this helps!

Edit: I see you got a similar answer in your linked askubuntu thread.
